For architects, engineers & specifiers

Your practice's lighting design arm.

Streamlight works as the lighting and electrical design capability inside architectural project teams across Southern Africa and the Indian Ocean — from concept narrative and photometric calculation through to specification, supply, site commissioning and handover.

01 — Partnership

Lighting scope, handled as part of your team.

Most practices do not carry a full-time lighting specialist, and lighting is usually the discipline that gets absorbed into someone else's scope late in the programme. We are engaged by architectural practices as their lighting and electrical design arm — working inside the project team rather than quoting at it from outside.

That means the lighting scope is owned by people who do only this, all day, and have done since 1994. Concept intent, photometric substantiation, luminaire selection, budget alignment and site commissioning sit with one accountable team instead of being split between a designer, an importer and an electrical contractor.

02 — Deliverables

Drawings that drop straight into your set.

We issue in the formats your documentation already runs on. Photometric design and lighting calculations are produced in Relux and DIALux; layouts, details and coordination are drawn in AutoCAD and Revit (BIM); luminaire schedules are specified to tender standard so they can go out to pricing without rework.

Where a practice has its own title blocks, layer conventions and issue protocol, we work inside them. The intent is that lighting arrives as a coordinated part of the set, not as a PDF someone has to redraw.

03 — Specification integrity

What we specify is what we have tested.

A specification is only worth what survives to site. As a certified LOA lab partner we test the products we put on drawings — driver compatibility, dimming curves, glare, lumen output and thermal behaviour — so the performance written into the schedule is performance that has been measured, not copied off a supplier datasheet.

Because Streamlight FX (Pty) Ltd holds its own import and export licences and manufactures bespoke fixtures in its own Kramerville factory, we control lead times and substitutions directly. Where something genuinely has to change, it is raised as a formal alternative with photometric comparison — not swapped quietly on site.

04 — Regions & sectors

Southern Africa and the Indian Ocean.

We work from a flagship studio and factory in the Kramerville design district in Johannesburg, a showroom in Cape Town, and a showroom in Mauritius serving the Indian Ocean region — which means specification support, samples and after-sales sit close to the projects themselves rather than at the end of an import chain.

Delivered scope spans hospitality, residential, corporate, retail and landscape: boutique hotels and resorts through the Indian Ocean islands and East Africa, private residences, and corporate head offices in Sandton and the wider Gauteng market.

05 — How a project starts

Send the drawings. We come back with intent.

The usual starting point is a set of plans and a short brief. We come back with a lighting concept narrative — where light falls, where it disappears, what it does to the architecture — together with a preliminary luminaire schedule and an indicative budget band, so the lighting conversation happens while it can still influence the design.

From there the scope runs through detailed design and photometrics, specification and tender documentation, supply and logistics, and on-site commissioning. One team, one point of accountability, one programme.
